Eliza Van Bibber School
Interim Community Committee

About the Committee

The Community Committee for our school functions much like a school council. Members meet monthly and collaborate with the Principal and school administrators to support planning and day‑to‑day operations. The FNSB Board of Trustees is committed to upholding the direction and initiatives of Community Committees, enabling local agency and purpose.

“No one knows your community, school, and learners better than you. That is why we want the community to wrap around their school, teachers, and learners — so that together we can offer the best to our kids.”

In Pelly Crossing, an Interim Community Committee is being established to offer support in school governance and planning. This enables local governance now, without requiring a formal Agreement with the Nation.

Set the Framework

Each Committee develops its own Terms of Reference using an FNSB template, with administrative support and advice provided by FNSB. This includes help with workplans, priorities, training, and templates for common situations. A big part of the work is figuring out how you want to work as you go.

  • Draft Terms of Reference / guidelines.

  • Develop an annual calendar and simple response templates.

  • Access training and mentorship opportunities from FNSB.

How to Get Involved

We’re inviting community members to apply to join the Interim Community Committee and help shape the future of learning at EVBS.

Community Committees empower the community to guide its own school.

The St. Elias Community School (SECS) Community Committee is the governing body for the K-12 school in Dakwä̀kä̀da. Together, they share authorities and responsibilities over the management and operation of the school with the First Nation School Board.

They are representatives of, and accountable to, the community of Dakwä̀kä̀da including the First Nations, Elders and Knowledge Keepers, residents and citizens, parents, families - and above all - the Learners of SECS.
